Connect laptop to HP Printer wirelessly

November 19, 2011 at 07:20:20
Specs: Windows Vista
I have followed instructions to connect my laptop to a wireless HP Photosmart 4500 series printer but printer fails to print. It states that the printer is offline and when I untick the offline button it still will not print. I have to connect it with the USB cable to print.
I do not have the printer set-up disk. I have the router connected and signal is Excellent just not picking up the printer.
Do I need to configure the printer with the router using the USB cable in order to get connection.
Please Help!!

Yes you do need to connect with a cable initially. You need to configure the printer with an IP address that corresponds to the address range being used by your router but outside of the DHCP range if your router is using DHCP.

You should be able to do a print-out from the pointer by pressing a combination of buttons that will tell you what IP address the printer is using at them moment.
