Hi, could any one please help how can I connect 2 computers together via the internet. I got 1 from home and 1 at work. I know the IP address. I've tried VNC, but I can only connect them within the network.
Any ideas guys

Your IP address is not registered so DNS is
not able to forward or you are using local
addresses (192.168.x.x) which are not
forwarded.

Generally you use VPNs to connect to computers together threw the internet. That keeps the information private between the two computers.
I know what tech-fred is trying to say, but it's not really that you don't have a registered DNS, it's because you don't have a public IP address. In order to connect across the internet you have to have what is known as a public IP address. You buy those from your Internet Service Provider. Some Internet Service Providers give you one. Once you have a Public IP address (and this is important) ON BOTH MACHINES, they can connect to each other threw the internet, either publicly (meaning anyone can connect to it) or privately using VPN.
The reason the DNS is inaccurate is because you don't have to have a domain name and still connect across the internet as long as you know the public IP address. The DNS only comes into play is if in addition to a public IP address you have a domain name as well.

Thank you guys, but I've heard that PCanywhere can connect 2 computers together via phone line or internet. So we can't connect them with VNC softwares?

Yes you can. Depending on the types of firewalls in use at each location, you will have to either: 1) map a public IP to an internal private IP and then create a policy that will allow the ports used by VNC or PCA to pass through or 2) create a DMZ and allow the same ports as above or 3) open a bigger hole and allow those ports through to any internal IP.
D is right though - VPN is the way to go. Your data is encrypted and you don't have to worry about ports.
