Conect PC to laptop

Hi... I try to connect my pc to my laptop, but I've no idea how to do it...still learning and if possible sharing the ADSL conections as well. I have a desktop pc running Win XP Pro with network card and now connected to the ADSL modem in my laptop I also have Win XP Pro installed and a PCMCIA card for fax/modem
For now I have thinking of using USB cable to connect them. But, is there any other solution of using phone line or pararrel port. If possible without adding hardware.., if not could you tell me what I need Thanks
