CPU/Ram: Celeron 433, 192 mb ram
Comment:

Have 3 computers networked using D-Link 604 router, named as follows: A - Dell PII 300 laptop 128 mb ram. B - Dell Celeron 433 desktop 192 mb ram. C - self assemled Duron 700 384 mb ram.All are running Windows 98se.
My problem is sometimes the computers "see" each other, most of the time the don't.
A - is visible on all 3 all the time.
B and C sometimes are visible on all 3, most of the time are not. Any ideas would be appreciated, before I pull my entire hair off.

Being visible in Network Neighborhood is dependent on computers sending broadcasts announcing their existance on an IP address, and the other computers receiving the broadcasts. Sometimes these fail to be sent or received, maybe due to firewalls or other things.

Have you run the Internet Connection Wizard and specified the connect through residential gateway option on each?

If you want a permanent fix, you could open the lmhosts file on one of the computers and enter the computer names and ipaddresses in the format you'll see in the built in file, and copy this file to the other computers.

Only problem with this is if your router changes the address of the computers, you have to go and edit this file on all 3 computers to correct it, but this should be rare unless you disconnect or power down any of the computers for long periods of time. To avoid this, set up reservations for all three computers in your router.
