I am new to networking, and i succesfully connected some wires to a hub and to a computer, i had a roadrunner technician install the rest when he was installing my cable. After reformatting (with an unfortunate encounter with a trojan) the network dusnt work anymore. We are in the same workgroup and both have file and printing sharing on, but we cant see eachother. I have a folder shared on my comp, but the other comp ddoesnt. Still i cant see my comp from the other comp. Im wondering if this may be because the usb port is still open, i have no idea i am only 14 years old. We have internet wire connecting to the hub, and then both computers are connected to the hub also. BOTH OF OUR INTERNETS WORK. I am confused of my mind.

Please help

it sounds like your network settings aren't right. Did you load TCP/IP?

Well... You have TCP/IP bound to a dial up adapter to get your internet communication, but TCP/IP bound to your Network adapter for network comm. These are two separate things. If you are using TCP/IP as your network protocol then make sure the computers are on the same network ID. ie 128.108.0.1 and 128.108.0.2 both with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. With these numbers both your computers would be on the 128.108.0 network with individual host ID's of 1 and 2 respectively. (Forgive me this is very simplified!) If this still doesn't work then try to use NetBEUI as your network protocol instead of TCP/IP. This is a pretty much fool-proof protocol and if it doesn't work then something else is wrong. Make sure you share out a folder on a recongnized partition. No NTFS partitions for a Win98 machine to see!
