I have 2 computers, one with XP Home Edition and the other with Windows 98 SE. I started making my network with wizard on XP and i made a Network disk to put the network on the Windows 98 computer. The commanication tools such as Client for Microsoft Netork,File and Sharing are there and I configured the ip and subnet correctly in TCP/IP .Also i have the correct same workgroup name on each computer and named them. I have the hard disks on share on both computers. The thing is that i can accuse the Windows 98 computer from my Windows XP computer in My Network Places. However, on the Windows 98 computer, i only find a computer icon with the computername of the Windows 98 in Network Neigborhood and inside the workgroup's icon of Entire Network. So I'm unable to find my Windows XP icon which means i cant access it from the Windows 98 computer. How do i correct this. Thanks in advanace.
You need to have the same id and password for the 98 and xp computers. I had the same problem and i finally tried to log in using the same for both and it worked. The computer names are different, but the username and password are identical and the workgroup name.
How do i login into the network under XP? Like in the Windows 98 computer, each start-up it gives a login window so you can type in the user and password.
YESSSSSSSSSSSs,it worked. I setup an account in XP and put in the same user and same password just as the Windows 98 computer has. When i did that,i check Network Neighborhood in the Windows 98 computer and have found a computer icon with the name of my XP computer. I double checked on it and the XP's C drive appear. Now i can access my XP hard drive from my Windows 98 computer.Excellent. Thank you TRP and Edward.
