Computer Freezes

I have a Linksys networking setup. System 1, a PIII 500mhz, ASUS P3B board. System 2, PII 350 mhz, ASUS P2B board. I use to have a dial up connection to the internet and had problems with my computer freezing every time system 2 would use the connection. Now I have Road Runner, using a USB connection and use internet connection sharing for system 2 and it still freezes when system 2 checks e-mail or browses. This only starting recently. I never had this problem before. We both run Win98 SE. Can you help ?

I have a similar problem. Here's my setup:
Host > Wireless NIC > Router > Internet \-> Linksys ethernet > hub-->hp vectra network card \->hp notebook
Ah screw it maybe this is good enough if not try the post or stretching the window. Host has two NICs, wireless on USB bus and PCI-based Linksys ethernet card. Linksys is hooked up to a hub connecting to vectra and notebook. Wireless broadcast to router. I bridge the two networks together using Sygate Home Network.
Whenever I access the net thru Sygate or use Network Neighborhood on any of the old hp machines, my host pc will lock up right there and then after a few minutes of seemingly uneventful surfing.
Tentative Conclusion: (It was worded somewhat differently in the intended post.) The USB bus has problems operating with the PCI bus on the same task - networking. USB was never really meant for networking computers together, so I think that's understandable. ICS/Sygate/etc. aren't really the best pieces of software either so that may add to the problems we both encountered.
Theoretically, this shouldn't be a problem. Some hotrodders I know have something like 7 NICs in their computers that work fine (thank GOD for Plug 'n Play support.) But then again, they're all based on PCI or ISA. A trend?
Anyway. I have to stop procrastinating and responding to message board posts and do my stinking homework. I hope any of this helps in your quest to figure out the problem. If you do, zip me another email and maybe we can sue Microsoft for making us waste valuable bandwidth because of their dodgy software. (However, I am interested in using Windows XP's native network bridging technology - like ICS but (seemingly) much better and stable and higher-level. But isn't that what Microsoft said about ICS in the first place in comparison to Microsoft networking protocols?)
