Don't know if this is the right forum for this. I put a new MB in one of my comps (actually used-new to me) everything is fine except when I plug in the network cable (cat5/100mbps) connected to Netgear router the computer instantly freezes. I did a clean/fresh install of XP. I have 4 other computers connected to the router and the only new part in this sys is the MB. If I boot the comp w/o the cable plugged in it is fine. only freezes when plugging it in. Usually stays frozen when I unplug the cable. I used 2 different NICs, each worked fine in other XP comps with XP's drivers. I have all the usual changes in bios cleared cmos b4 installing OS, set "plug and play os" to NO, set Bios defaults and cleared config data. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brad

setting plug and play to no and installing xp is a bad idea. Your hardware resources don't get enumerated the same with no P&P.

plug in the cable. boot the computer. see if it comes up. If not unplug the cable. Look at event viewer for the error message as to what may be going on.

I suspect a hardware conflict when the driver loads.

I had heard it was best to set to BIOS PNP to NO for XP. Event viewer didn't help. I'll try reinstalling XP, clear cmos 1st and setting pnp to yes.

Thanks,
Brad
