I have been trying in vain for the last week to setup my two computers in a wireless network. We just recently switched to comcast so the internet downstairs has been unable to connect. I was on the phone with a representative last night and I was told that Comcast actually does not support wireless network. Is this true because I seem to be reading posts all the time on how to do, I can just never get mine to do it. Thanks

Do you have a wireless router? and does your computer have a wireless NIC? it would be helpful if we knew what OS was on the computer that your trying to setup wirless on. you can use wireless at home with comcast, but there tech's on the phone will not help you with setting-up your wireless home network.

Sorry for not sharing all my information, haha. I am running Windows XP on both computers and I have a linksys router, a comcast cable modem and them a speedstream modem left over from my previous wireless network. And I'm not sure about a NIC. I do have an ethernet card

I have wireless adapters but they're not a card. They're external. I've never used one before, are they only needed for a comcast wireless network? And I looked at the digram and I've tried to set it up so the modem connects to the router and then to the computer, but then cannot connect to the internet. I'll try to powercycle the modem and the router but nothing seems to work. Sorry I'm so difficult :)

you might not be getting a DHCP request? type doing a IPConfig from your dos prompt

C:>ipconfig /all [enter]

you should see a IP address from your router, it should be 192.168.?.? , also try pinging a website

C:>ping tv.com [enter]

your should get a reply from tv.com, if not you have a DNS problem

Hey Katrina,
One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet. Comcast uses device MAC address to authenticate you access. SO, if when you first set up your account it was with the PC directly connected to the modem, you need to set the linksys router to clone your PC's MAC address. Post back if you need a step-by-step. P.S. be sure you use the mac address of your ethernet card, not the wireless adapter.

Hello,
I have a similar question...
I'm new at networking and I have this situation.
I have a Dell PC running win98
and I'm using Comcast too and also got the same response from their Tech's "sorry we don't offer any support for networking" :)
I would like to be able to do work at home on my G4 mac.laptop, I have an airport express I thought I could use but the modem from Comcast only has 1 ethernet port and so that eliminates using the airport.
I was told I would have to get a wireless router which I'm shopping for now and didn't know if I would have to get a ethernet card for my PC as well to have them all using the router?
can you help me?
