Specs: Windows XP, 500
I have comcast in the mountains becuase it is hte only broadband I can get. It was installed and worked fine unitl I came up this week and ound that the ethernet light will not recognize that my laptop is plugged into the modem. I am able to use my network fine at work with this ethernet card and cable but it won't connect to internet using this connection. The techs laptop works fine, so he was happy to go away and say it was my ethernet connectionn that was the problem. How can I connect in one place and not another if that is the case?

Shut the modem & the PC. Boot the modem first, wait a few minutes, then boot the PC.

make sure your network cards tcp/ip properties are set to auto assigned and not a static ip.
