Hi, there,
I'm contemplating getting Comcast broadband, and it is my understanding that they do not support routers, but you can set one up on your own. I have two laptops that would need to be on the wireless network (no desktops). One is a Dell XPS Gen 2, running Windows XP SP2, and the other is an HP Pavilion dv2610us, running Vista. Both have WiFi.I did a search on the site and found a few hits regarding setting up a wireless router with Comcast, but they were kinda over my head (MAC spoofing?). Can anyone explain, as though they were speaking to a 2-year-old, what I should do?
I have not yet purchased a router, so if you could specify what type I'd need, that would also be great. I'm planning on just getting Comcast's lowest-tier internet option, nothing fancy.
I greatly appreciate any help! Thanks!

When comcast comes out they hookup everything to a workstation. That workstation mac address [nic card] is registered with comcast. If you try to use a different pc it doesn't work because its mac address is not registered.
To put in a router you have to clone the mac address of the workstation to the wan interface of the router so the router reports itself as the workstation that is registered.
Linksys has a clone mac button in the wan interface setup screen as do most routers. Those that don't have a button have a manual input area. You can get your mac address from a ipconfig /all via a cmd prompt.
Buy the router of your choice and simply follow the setup steps in the manual [I don't recommend using any cd that comes with the system. More chance of error]

Thank you, Wanderer. I'm going to call Comcast sometime this week and pick up a router, as well. I appreciate your help. Just wanted to make sure I could definitely have a wireless network with Comcast before I committed to them.
