I have a cisco 806 router. I also have a desktop and a laptop and would like to connect them to our home network. My friend told me to disconnect the power to the cable modem, then console into the router. Then do a write erase and reload. When it came back up he told me to power on the cable modem. I did and it worked as far as assigning the IP address to the router (which was different then what I used to have). But after that I could not figure out what to do next. My firend dosent kow either, he says it all should work. Do I need to program the router and do something in XP?? Do you guys know how to help because any help would be soo much appreciated.

Depends. If it is a Cable modem connection, it should work. If it is a DSL line that uses PPPoE, and you had to use a Logon/password to get online, you will have to set the Router for PPPoE and give it the logon ID and password, and let it handle the longon.
