Hi everyone,
Currently, we are running 2 domains - one for staff, and another for students. However, our Cisco Catalyst 2960 router has too many ports configured for the 'student' domain, and we have run out of staff ports.
My questions is, how can I reconfigure these ports so we can use the excess student ports as staff ports?
I have complete access to the router's OS, but I am not sure which options there-after I should be looking at.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Scott.

Oh, my.
Not even sure I have seen a good tutorial site on that.
I would say you eihter need to stop or get some training. You can really mess it up if you are not careful. It doesn't seem to relate to prior skills to most people.
One of two ways.
One is a text based config file that you can edit live or use a text editor and upload it. Easy to bork either way.
There is a web based config module that may or may not be in the ios. It is a bit easier for some people but has other issues.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Cisco Catalyst 2960
That's a switch, not a router.
Are you using VLAN's? If yes, then just change the tag on whichever ports you wish to reassign.
You could post your config in here and I'd have a look. I'm pretty familiar with the Catalyst 2960's. Just XXX out the IP's and passwords.

If you just need to change the vlan port assignments , logg into the 2960 , get into interface config mode for whatever interface you want to change then use the following command "switchport access vlan XX" where XX is the vlan number you want the port into , as previous poster said this is a layer 2 switch and not a router . This device cannot route any packets , the layer 3 function would have to done by an attached router or a layer2/3 switch .

A little more info , if you need to see what vlan the ports are set to just use the :show interface status command " or the show vlan command and this will tell what vlan the ports are set to ,

"I have complete access to the router's OS, but I am not sure which options there-after I should be looking at."
You need more training to do this. You will either have to learn how to congigure a Cisco IOS based device or have some hands on help. There are just too many steps for a non-trained person. Unless you post the running config we couldn't begin to help.
If you don't know how to access the config and how to tftp it or edit it live you can really mess it up. Could be a very simple setup to a very complex setup.I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Thanks for the help guys. With a little playing around, it's all been done.Just spent some time reading different options etc, and got there in the end - took about 30 minutes, but we got it done.
Again, thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Hi Wester Work, can you post your how you did on here so anyone else you have a similiar problem can get some ideas on how you did it. Thanks
