Cisco IOS quick question If you reset a cisco eg an 857w with an UPGRADED IOS back to factory default will the IOS revert back or does it just erase config and passwords etc..?

It should. I've never played with any SOHO level Cisco equipment but I know it's true for enterprise level managed switches and routers.
The SOHO level router's I've played with, when reset, go back to factory defaults....and that's regardless of firmware version.
BTW, I doubt that is actually Cisco's IOS on that unit. More than likely it's an http management interface like all the rest of the SOHO routers out there.
