Utilizing configmaker I delivered a configuration to my router via the network. The delivery failed and the router was hosed. I was able to get into it via the network but the enable password was set to something that is unknown to me. (I tried anything I might have used as a password but nothing worked) I am trying to connect via the console now as the ethernet connection has now died but am unable to do so. I know the serial port on the PC works as I can use it for other apps (not while trying to use it for the console of course). I have a DB9-RJ45 adapter that came with the router but I don't have the factory rollover cable. I made one up according to the specs but still can not get into the console at all. I don't know if anyone out there can offer assistance or not.

TIA for any help offered,

Craig

Goto the Cisco site www.cisco.com and do a search on password recovery for a 1750 cisco router, you HAVE to be directly connected to the console port to do a password recovery, also check the book that came with the router , it's should be in their how do a password recovery...check all the books that came with it...

Ahhh....but there lies the rub. I can not get into the console to do the password recovery. I don't have any of the original books or anything that came with the router (I just use stuff from cisco.com). What I am wondering is, is there something special about a factory made rollover cable? As far as I can tell by home-made rollover cable is fine as is my serial adapter for my PC. I've never done any work on routers before but it seems pretty simple and straight-forward.

Thanks again,

Craig

Use a windows 98 or ME NOT NT Hyer term , set it at 9600 8 N 1. The rollover cable is

1 8
2 7
3 6
4 5
5 4
6 3
7 2
8 1

These are 8C's or RJ45 cat 5 cable

The plastic RJ45 ---- 9 pin Com port, not sure
you will have to lookup on the Cisco site, all there pin-out's are on there site
