Subject: Cisco 1720 router configuration |
Comment: I am setting up a WAN with 2 cisco 1720 routers on a 256 leased line. In the configuration manual, there does not seem to be much info as far as setting up the ip addresses for the network (which are already established at both ends) and for the router ip address. If anyone could help me with this configuration information, I would appreciate it. Sample configurations would be extremely helpful!

Reply: (edit)If you can provide the existing IP's, I can show you how to set it up. Examples are hard to provide with very little info to go on. Also include how many (projected) hosts are on each side. You must have two distinct segments to route between them, and a third for the serial connection would be helpful. You could set the routers up as bridges, and just have them forward data back and forth, but this will be a waste of your limited bandwidth, thus the third network between them. There are other ways to do it that save IP's, but if you can afford the extra IP's (4, with the right settings), it's the best way to go, as it's much easier to troubleshoot should problems develop (which they almost always do).
