Yep, use the second ethernet interface to the VSAT unit it self. Does the VSAT unit have an ethernet port, it should.

I just help converted a VERY large company from VSAT to frame-relay. We used frame as the backbone WAN connection and the VSAT as Diai-backup, It work great.

Ethernet one to the main LAN
Ethernet two to the VSAT

And just use the second ethernet as your dial
back-up.

The Cisco 1601 has only one serial and one ethernet port. The other is a WAN interface module slot ,which is empty.

The Serial interface would be your company WAN(PPP, HDLC or Frame)

The Ethernet one interface could be your local LAN

The Ethernet two interface could be your VSAT

I would then use your VSAT(Ethernet two) for your dial back-up, if the WAN interface would go down.

brian,

Why did the company migrate from VSAT to frame relay? Was it to reduce costs or possibly for increased reliability? The trend seems to be to move to VSAT.

It was slow, 1100 ms to 1500 ms for VSAT and about 100 ms with frame.. round trip...
