Hi,
Im in university halls - I was planning to share a wireless internet connection with another guy, who has the router plugged into his network port. However the room ive just moved to actually has its own internet connection. So I'm currently connected to both networks, the wireless (via the router) and the internet via ethernet. However, everytime i access the internet it uses his internet through the wireless connection. IS there anyway I can basically select my internet, as the primary gateway, whilst still being connected wirelessly so i can share files etc.? Like I say since im connecting wirelessly to his router it appears his internet is taking priority over mine. In TCP/IP properties of local area network I tried setting the ethernet gateway as the default gateway but it doesnt seem like its making a difference! Any ideas?
I was thinking I could just set the router to Access point mode and get him another network card so he can connect to his internet via ethernet, and the router via his other ethernet...but is there not a way I can do it without buying anything at the moment?
Thanks a lot!
Cheng

Easiest way would be statically assign your IP on the wireless adapter to an address on the same network as his, but outside his router's DHCP scope, and remove the default gateway address. Without a default gateway, your computer can't route to the internet through his router.
