Hi All,

Charter cable installed internet service to my home today. I opted for the wired internet modem and they provided Ambit U10C018. At lunch I went home and connected my home network as follows:

In living room I have the Ambit modem connected to Linksys EZXS55W Switch. On the switch I have one computer connected, as well as Linksys Powerline Network Adapter PLS300. In my bedroom I plugged in the other end of the powerline adapter that has the 4 ports into the wall and then plugged in my bedroom computer to that.

My computer in the living room is able to stay connected to the internet. However, my computer in the bedroom keeps telling me it is waiting for an IP address but one is never given. As such, I can't connect any computers to the powerline adapter in my bedroom. Also, if I try connecting another computer to the switch, it tells me the same problem, trying to acquire IP address.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Buy a router. You cannot share an Internet connection with a switch.

The Modem provides one IP address, the public IP address supplied by your ISP. Two computers cannot have the same IP address. A router with give you up to 254 private IP addresses which are mapped to the single public address via Network Address Translation
