I have been trying to change the ports used by Remote Desktop Web Connection with no luck. It works fine when you leave both ports used by default. I would like to change these for security and to be able to have set up multiple users across a range of ports without having to create port redirect rules to have them access thier computers. I have changed the default port for Remote Desktop in the registry, and the port for the default web server in the config screen for the Default Web Site. They work independently but not together. I suspect that the answer is in the link on the HTML page for RDWC I think the url is C:\WINDOWS\Web\TSWeb Could anyone help? Thanks, jeff

Don't quote me on this but I don't think thats achievable. I use Realvnc from RealVNC.com. Easily customizable and user friendly

I use vnc for my linux boxes but this is something I would like to use on a windows network. Most companies like to stay with windows componets.

I have found that the I can change the port of the website and that is when the tsweb breaks. Perhaps there it has something to do with how virtual domains are served. I no very little about MS's web server or IIT as it's called.

Well I have made some progress. I changed the Default Website directory to C:\WINDOWS\Web\TSWeb Then changed the port to one that I wanted. It's working now. The login page is served. But I have tried to change the Remote Desktop port and it will not work from the default RDWC page or C:\WINDOWS\Web\TSWeb\default.htm page. I Still think there is a way to direct the "connection" via another port. I hope someone can help.

I've been playing with the web page, and have enhanced it to support many of the options the activex control accepts, including the ability to put in a port number by adding a colon and the port number to the end of the server IP address, just like in the regular client. You can try it at:

Let me know if it works for you.

Very, Very cool. It works great. You have created a good tool. I know very little about HTML much less Active X. For those following this thread I opened and saved the page from the url you provided. I then backed up the old folder "C:\WINDOWS\Web\TSWeb " which is where I the default website is now served from. Then created a new \TSWeb folder and placed in it the page and its folder which I saved. Then I renamed the page to "default" and the thing works great. Microsoft should have written the page the way you have done to allow more flexibility with the server name and port. I hope this thread helps others that need the same fix. Hats off to you SRW. Thanks, Thanks again, jeff

Glad you liked it. I created the page, so that when I'm over at a friend's house helping them with their computer, and I need something from my computer, I don't have to install the remote desktop client on their computer (if they aren't running XP). I was always frustrated with the web page version because you couldn't shut off the wall paper, and some other things that made it slow. Also, you couldn't control whether or not to share the disk drives.

I made a few improvements to the page since you got it yesterday. Specifically, I added some error checking on the server name/port number field. Before, if you put in invalid syntax (e.g. alpha port number, 2 colons, etc.) it would just refresh the page without telling you what's wrong. Now if an error occurs trying to set the properties for the activex control regarding the server name or port number, an error box pops up.

Enjoy.

hi
I can not get the remote desktop web connection to work.
I am able to get the screen that asks for the server name and when I click connect it comes up with a blank page that shows a square the size of what the screen of the remote computer shoudl be. At the bottom is says "You are logged in to "
Any suggestions?
Thanks

jeffpoulsen and specially SRW, thank you for such information and improved web page. I was looking for some way to change the port to access remote desktop via web and I found it here.

I have a question though, to SRW. Is there a way to add a feature to the html page so that I can leave the computer sound at the remote computer? I like to configure the remote computer for webcam and the like and having the sound in the local computer makes it impossible to configure.

Thanks again.
