changing IP address temporarily

I need to set up a temporary network between my boss' laptop and PC so he can transfer files from the laptop to the PC. He uses the laptop at work on a NOvell network and the PC is just a stand-alone at home. Installed on the laptop is the Novell protocol but also Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing and TCP/IP. It is set so he obtains an IP address automatically.
My question is: Can I change the IP address on the laptop to 192.168.0.2 (and make the IP address on the PC 192.168.0.1) to set up this temporary network, and then when the laptop is back at work change the IP address back to being obtained automatically? Will that disturb any of the work network settings?

Download 'netswitcher' and install it on his laptop. Set it up to do the job for you. He will be able to decide where he is and use the right ip address. OK, so I'm lazy. Have fun ChrisE
