I have a belkin wireless router. My question is: Is there a way to change the IP address given by the DHCP server at any given time? thanks

IP address assignments can be done by setting the DHCP pool, that is the range of IP address' that are to be assigned to all connecting devices.

On your wireless router there should be a management item on your menu.

Generally for home networks the IP address range assigned tends to be 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.255

You can change this to whatever you require, but generally this range should suffice. My obvious question would be why would you want to change the IP's?

Each client is given an IP address and a date to expire, a new IP is then assigned this is called a lease.

You can renew and release IP addresses using the following commands in a prompt.

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

If your client recieves the IP 169.254.x.x
where x could be any number then your client is not recieving IP's from the DHCP Server.

Hope this information is helpful.

If you can clarify what you are trying to achieve then perhaps I could be of more use.

All the Best,

Jonathan

yes you can change the default network ID that the DHCP enabled router can hand out. as a matter of fact it is a very good idea to do so. you never know when that nieghbor is going to get the same network ID and start spoofing IP's between the 2 home networks. you can allso allow access to only the computers you want by thier MAC address, alllso a very good idea.
good luck
