I am not sure how to ping the other computer, but I did pull up network neighborhood many times and tried to enter it and it says there is no connection. It won't even pick up the computer it is on, let alone the other computer (while the other computer will pick up "itself" but not this computer).

I have 2 network cards in this computer (the "home" computer) and 1 in the other one.

I do not know how to set up the lan settings. I know where to go to do it, I believe, but don't know what numbers to enter.

I have switched the dsl/network cords 2x to see if it was a broken nic - it is not. The one with the dsl is always green, the other, isn't.

Have you tried Pinging other computers on your network?
How many network cards do you have in your computer? 4?

You have plugged you DSL into your old network CARd?? If so that is why

You will need to set up your LAN settings on then new card.

If the green light is not coming on when it is connected to another computer it means on of two things.

Network card is not working.
Network cable is not working.
Trying testing the cable, if the cable works with another computer and network card.
Then you have a broken NIC.

To summarize, we have had networked the above computers since early 2001. The past several months it has been hit and miss due to what we believe is a short in the cord. But I had it working again when we installed dsl, last night.
To install the dsl, I had to unplug the network and plug in the dsl modem into the network card. I then installed the second network card provided with our dsl. That network card will not light up to appear as a network, with the green light. Obviously when I plug in the network cord, it does nothing.

So our DSL is working great but our network is dead.

OUr ISP's and original computer manufacturer are unable to help. I did find out through our computer company how to look at the following numbers:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter :

IP Address. . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter :

Media Status. . . . . . . . : Disconnected
IP Address. . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter :

IP Address. . . . . . . . . : 67.38.248.27
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . : 67.38.248.27

which mean absolutely nothing to me. I assume the disconnected one is a network card I had tried to install a few years ago that wouldn't work. I'm assuming network cards 1 & 3 are the ones we have in there now.

Also, ever since we installed the network 2 years ago, when the second computer is online (and the network is working, which it isn't now) it would trigger the first to start dialing continuously. We would remedy this by turning off the sharing.

Well, now that we have the dsl in it, it is back to dialing out continuously. Turning off the sharing doesn't help. And the network isn't working.

ANy help is greatly appreciated!
