Comment: Folk's, Does anyone know of a Cat5 wiring tester for bare wires? I need to test the wires that I've pulled, and I want to make sure that they are actually working properly. Since my termination(s) don't require RJ45 males, I don't want to have to attach one just for testing(and then throw it away). So, what I'm looking for is just a tester that I can connect the wires to(no RJ45). Thanks, ....jc

Reply: (edit)There is no such tester. Even if there were, how would you know that you terminated the ends properly? Are you planning on testing them twice; once without and once with the connectors? You need to terminate the ends first, then test to see if they are working properly. Once you have the cable terminated, with the proper tester, you can test every aspect of the cabling.

Reply: (edit)If not to plugs what are you terminating to? If to punch block, Then connect to punchblock, then use a short male to male cable to connect to tester.

Reply: (edit)Folk's, Thanx for the replies. This is to test the wire after installation, but before the 'trim out' which will occur weeks later. No male RJ45 is required on either end of the cable, punch down jacks/blocks handle that. And yes, connector failures are the reason for eliminating them. Thanx, ....jc
