Hi! I want to connect two computers to the Internet through router. I bought two CAT 5 cable for router to computer connection. Does connection between modem and router need also a Cat 5 cable or my old cable which I have used for internet connection between modem and computer is ok? peter
The thing to always keep in mind about these cable specifications is that they refer to a bandwidth specification for a specified distance. CAT5 means that the manufactuer claims that the cable will support 100mb/s data transmission for 1k meters. If your connection is only going 1 or 2 meters, you could use just regular telephone wire and still support 100mb/s.
