Oright guys

Just bought this router http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DIR-... of amazon and I'm having trouble setting it up.
I connected all the wires in the right places and started the boot CD that came with it.
I then followed the instruction and I get to a point where it try's to connect to the internet and as you can predict it doesn't connect.

Really stuck here as I have no idea what I'm doing wrong and If it helps you with my problem I've got a 20mb cable connection with virgin media.

Thanks in advance

Do you have a static IP or do you have it set up to use DHCP? Also I assume since you set up the router that you are getting a valid private IP?

You should of bought the one Virgin-Media supply at £45.00, it is a Netgear configured to work with 20Gig Broadband.

You do not need to use the cd. Usually the cd just loads a bunch of junk on your pc.

Since this is used, it most likely needs to be cleared back to factory defaults.

If you don't have the manual go to dlinks site and download that models manual and follow the instructions to set back to factory defaults. Then follow the step by step. It will give you a list of things you need to know like you isp settings for your configuration of the wan side of the router.

I guys thanks for the reply's.

Ok that's the problem I don't no whether I have to use a static IP or the DHCP option. personally only tried the DHCP option which clones a mac address or something like that.

But If I chose the option for static IP it requests more information, and I have no idea where to obtain the things its requesting.

No, most ISPs just use DHCP connection. You usually have to pay extra for static IPs.

flashstatic why are you guessing?

This is why you want to follow the manual. BTW dhcp has nothing to do with cloning a mac address.

You really need the manual !!!
