Specs: iMac
Can you help me please. I have recently got a Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless G Router and have no installation cd (I got it off a friend) and have tried to set up the system and it will not work. I have put the ethernet plug into the router and cabled the router to the mac and entered to get the router set up page but when i try to put in the static ip it keeps timing out or serve is not responding. Any help for me?

set your mac to use dhcp and while connected to the router reboot. Then see what ip you get. The gateway entry would be how to connect to the router.

Did your friend tell you the admin password to the router?

Yes he has and it no long looks for that info. I have not tried that solution as it is a home network, currently in work. Not sure if i fully understand it. But the main problem i think is that the router wont let me through to the static ip page. Would it be broken?

Likely you're entering the wrong address if it's timing out.

As wanderer said, connect via DHCP and open a command prompt window (Start >> Run, type cmd and hit [Enter]) and type the following command:

ipconfig /all

The Default Gateway IP address is the IP of the router and the one you should be entering in your web browser to connect to the router's management interface.

The problem is you are assuming that is the correct ip address. It may not be if it was changed by your friend.

By setting the mac as a dhcp client, if the router is configured to provide dhcp, as 99% are, then you will know for sure what the ip is to access the router.
