I have a home network and I'm trying to set up file sharing and printer sharing for 4 computers. The network is on 1 router and an extra switch connected to the router. THe first two computers are connected to the router and the last two are connected to the switch. I can't share printers for some reason, and one of the computers from the router can't share files with the two computers fromt he switch. However file sharing between the two computers on the switch is fine. What is wrong? What can I do to fix this?

Why do you think he should remove the router, uppercrust?
hardcoregamer, what happens when you try to share the printers? Do you get any error message? What have you tried so far? Give us something more to work with than "I can't share printers for some reason".

Alright what I did was I set up the home network. I put the printer to share. I then went onto the other computers on the network (the ones that aren't directly connected to the printer) and went to add a printer. I then chose for it to search for a network printer and the printer that I have selected to share does not appear. I can't remove the router because then I wont have seperate IP's. I bought a switch because my router only has 4 ports and I need 5.

IF you are not using the router to share an internet connection, then just get rid of the router and set the IP addressed manually. But that is not your problem, it should work fine the way you have it.
Are all the computers running XP Pro?
You have to go back and check all your network settings.
1. Make sure all computers are on the same Workgroup.
2. Each computer has a different computer name.
3. Security setting are all the same.
4. Run ipconfig/all to verify mode, proper IP assignments.
5. Check router settings. This is just a few of the things to look at.

Yes we use the router to share internet and we all have XP Pro.
1) I did make sure we're on the same workgroup.
2) Each computer does have a different name
3) Security settings as in what? They're on the default ones from SP24.
4) When I type "ipconfig/all" into Run, it says "Windows cannot find 'ipconfig/all'"
5) I did check the router settings. Everything seems fine. Or is there something in particular I should check for?
