Hi all--
I have 2 computers on a network that I want to share files on, but I can only get into one from the other, and not vice-versa.They are both running Win XP Home and McAfee Internet Security Suite. They both are set to allow traffic from the local network in. The Windows Firewall is off on both. From my desktop computer I can get into the shared drives on the laptop, but I can't get into the shared drives on the desktop from the laptop.
What am I doing incorrectly here? Thanks,
Eric

in my openiom i think that u have to turn off the firewall, and also enable file and print sahring from my network place.
hope it will solved.
jamil.

Have you enabled sharing and set permissions accordingly? Does the problem machine answer ping from the other?
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Check the McAfee Internet Security Suite, make sure you have disabled the firewall if found. If not, you might need to allow file sharing traffic to go through.
Then check this link to ensure you have enabled folder/file sharing properly.
Good luck...

Hi guys--
--I can ping either comuter from either.
--The McAfee firewall on both computers is set to allow network traffic from my network
--All the folders I want to share are set up to be shared.
--I'm not sure about permissions. Where would I look for those?
Thanks again.

Share file with user permission is only available in XP pro, so you can ignore this part.
It should work with simple file sharing! I advise you to disable all firewalls temporary and test again. Sometimes it might due to misconfiguration.
Open a browser, Type \\computer-IP-address and hit Enter, to access the destination shared computer directly, see whether it works.
