EDIT: Nevermind. I think this is working now that I restarted. It's only at 40% and less, even a few feet away from the wireless router? Anyway to make it go faster?
Also, I set up a security password at the Linksys admin page at http://192.168.1.1. It's not asking my laptop for any type of password. Should it be? Thanks!!
I feel so dumb. I can't figure out how to setup wireless internet.I got my first laptop (netbook) today, a Dell Mini 9. I have a desktop PC with Windows XP that is connected to the internet directly through an ethernet cord running to a cable modem. I have a Linksys wrt54g that my brother left here when he moved to the UK.
My Mini 9 sees my Linksys wireless connection but I can't access any websites without plugging the ethernet into the Mini 9. I was able to access the Linksys control panel by going to http://192.168.1.1, but I don't know what my host name or host domain is anyway, which I'm assuming you need to know.
I'm so confused. I read online tutorials that act like everything should work just by turning on the wireless router and that's not the case. I'd like my desktop PC to still connect via ethernet cable and just have the wireless for the Mini 9.
