Seem to have a problem with my new pc, I can'tsee it on the netwrok.
Both my computers can see the old computer on the network but neither can see the new one.
Folders are set to share, sharing is enabled, firewalls off, both on the same network, netbios is enabled in cp/ip and both happily connect to the net.

I'm using a netgear router.

Anyone got any ideas what is wrong?

Do you have Norton Antivirus? It likes to hide PC's on the network.

Can all the PC's ping each other by name?

If not
Can all the PC's ping each other by IP

If not
What PC's can ping each other, if any fail what error do you get when ping the PC that does not respond

Also - What is the IP information (ipconfig /all) for all the PC's

We can take it from there if your network is not setup properly.

If all the PC's can ping by name, then you may want to check to see if computer browser is set to automatic.

Thanks for any input.

Have you added the new PC to the same "workgroup" as the other PCs.
right click "my computer" click "properties"click the "computer name" tab, click "change"... make sure the workgroup is named the same..

Hi.
Both computers are indeed on the same network yes.
From the computer that can be seen on the network by both computers, I pinged the ip address of the conputer that cannot be seen and it had no problems seeing it that way.
It says it sent 4 packets with 0 percent loss

However my computer knowledge isn't great and knowledge of pinging is minimal to say the least. I'm not sure how to ping by computer name.

Really appreciate the help guys

The PCs can be on the same "network" but not on the same "workgroup". Have you checked the "workgroup" as mentioned above?

If you use a firewall, have you added the new PCs ip address to your firewalls trusted zone?

Are all the machines running XP? Is the firewall enabled?

If you don't have an anti-virus program installed, install one.

here what you can try, from the run cmd, type in this "\\ip address of the remote pc\c$" "\\10.1.1.1\c$" example - if your prompt by a password and user name, enter it. if that works, you have a wins or name resolution issue of some type.
