Hi there,
I have a strange network problem. My PC is running on win98 and has been connected with other computer running win95.Previously my computer can see all the computer through network neighbourhood and mapped them (shared file). But now when i browse through network neighbourhood i can't see any of the computer and get the message "permanent connection not available".I try to ping one the computer(win95) and response is o.k (zero packet lost) that means my connection is o.k. I try to use ftp to the computer(win95)but i got the message "refuse to connect".Can you give me some advice on how to check the problem (configuration, setting etc....)?

Thanks in advance

If you are using netbeui on any of the computers then you have to have it running on all of them. The tests you ran are only valid for tcp/ip. Remove all protocols other than TCP/IP from your network and your problems will go away.

Try using IPX/SPX WITH NETBIOS ENABLED (netbios enabled is important - double-click the protocol to be taken to the page where you put a tick to eneble NetBios support). I also install NetBeui, set as the default protocol, and TCP/IP, both of these protocol's bound to File and Printer Sharing, etc. IPX/SPX might be the answer for you - but enable NetBios!
