I either forgot my Asante FR3004 password or somebody changed it. Either way, I want to reset it to the factory default. The Asante website says you have to connect through the com port to do this. Ok. I connected the router directly to my computer through the com port and nothing happened. I searched everywhere I could think of on the computer to find the router. I even tried internet explorer. What do I do?

Again, I believe this common question being asked somewhere around. The simple answer is most router will have a little tinny reset button somewhere on the router itself. That will bring the router back to the factory default configuration. You have to know what is the default factory user and password for your router in order to login.

Most routers have a typical username and password on default settings. The ones I deal with generally have "admin" for the user and "admin" or blank for the password. To reset the router find the reset button and hold it in for 5-10 seconds and then cycle the power off and back on. Start the PC and check the IP address and then enter the gateway address in the browser, frequently it is 192.168.0.1 depending on the brand. Try the username and password. One of the combinations should work.

Ok, i had the same problem. What i did (Sorta risky, not really) I unscrewed the router opened the casing and removed the little nickle sized battery from it for abought 5 minutes and put it back and back together turned it all back on. I had to reset some of the settings (Just a valid Username and password for your ISP) And it changed to the stock password (mine was "Admin" most Linksys use this) Look at the manual that was provided with your router for its default password.
Why won't it ever work!
