Sorry if this is a duplicate post, but I could not find another with exactly the same issue...
I recently set up a 2 pc home network with a new XP Home sp1 pc and my older Win98 pc. I've set up sharing so that I can see the shared folders one from the other. I can get to the files on the 98 pc from the XP pc, so XP to 98 is no an issue. However, when I try to open my shared folder on the xp pc from the 98 machine I get an error in 98 saying that the "folder is not accessible. Not enough memory is available. Quit some programs". I can see the folder in Network Neighborhood but can't open it. There are no other programs running. Windows system monitor shows 80 to 90% resources free in 98. The 98 pc has 256 meg of memory and more than one memory utility shows over half is unused. I also get the same error when trying to print to the shared printer on the XP Home pc. Any insights would be appreciated.

Win 98 runs Fat32 as it's file system. It has trouble seeing XP's NTFS.
The workaround is setting up an account on the XP machine with the login information on the 98. Set the 98 machine to "Microsoft Client for Windows Login" by right clicking on the network neighborhood.

Have exactly the same problem and have come accross a couple of postings before, none of which offered a solution.
bgoody, dont know exactly where to find "Microsoft Client for Windows Login"
I right click, go on Properties but can't find what you describe.

http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?spid=748&newpid=748&sqid=385211I changed the IRPStackSize as suggested and it worked for me.

Thanks Alex, that did it. I can now get to the XP files from the 98 pc and print from 98 to the XP printer. Awesome!
Regedit the XP machine
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Services
\lanmanserver
\parametersChanged the IRPStackSize parameter from 11 to 15.
Notes:
- I'm using network log on in the 98 machine and have used TweakUI to automaticlly log in.
- Password is empty string
- I DO NOT have Guest enabled on XP machine, nor do I have an account set up with the same username as my 98 username. Didn't need either of those on.Thanks again! WoooooHooooooo!
