im on a LAN and usually log on to different workstations. There is however one PC running win 98 where when you boot the pc the log on window is different and it does not provide for loging on to the network. i dont know why that has changed but once i logged on as the Administrator... I have tried changing things in the network settings to no avail. please help coz i have no access to the internet on this pc.

Remove the Client for Microsoft Networks and then reboot.
Reinstall the Client and reboot again.

Almost sounds like you are trying to logon to a domain and you are only getting a Windows password screen. This usually means that the Client for Microsoft Networks is corrupted or not present. It could also mean that you do not have your machine setup to logon to a domain, and instead it is a member of a workgroup.
To check your workgroup/domain status, I think you have to go to the Control Panel and select 'Network'. From there, there is probably a Network Indentification tab where you state if you are a member of a workgroup or a domain.
