I sure hope someone can help me with this. I'm getting desparate! I have a server running SBS 2000 with AD and DNS and no DHCP. I have a Linksys cable/dsl router with DHCP enabled. There are two Win98 machines and a WinME plus 5 WinXP Pro machines connected to the server. They
are all getting DHCP okay and all accessing the Internet okay. The 2-Win98 and the WinME machines can all log into the domain with no problem and run the logon scripts. However, I am having major problems with the XP's. Two of them were able to join the domain but upon reboot, they were unable to log onto the domain and gave a "domain not available..." error. The others would not even join the domain and gave the same "domain not available..." error when I tried to use the Network ID wizard or add them manually. I set them all up as members of a workgroup with the same name as the domain and now they are all able to access server shares and map drives, but of course are not members of or logging into the domain. What am I doing wrong? Is this a DNS problem? I know from what I have read, XP is very particular about DNS stuff.

Hope someone can help!
Thanks in advance,
Marty

Do they have all the same NetBios names? I would change the XP machines NetBios names to something else and try to re-join them into the domain.

Did you use Ghost to copy the drives from one to another? If yes, run NewSID before joining the domain.

Thanks to all who replied. I found another thread similar in problem to mine which talked about XP and the necessity to have DNS working flawlessly. I went back and checked DNS on the server and it was okay. Then I redid the DNS setup on each workstation and that made the difference. They are now all logging into the domain and working great. Can't believe XP is so "DNS-picky"!

Thanks again to all,
Marty

Can anyone help me with this problem...
I installed a network with win 2000 server
installed DNS DHCP on all machines, I can logon to server but I get a message saying that the machine couldn't logon to domain and that resources may not be availabe. I can see the shares on the netork and ping the server.

I can't see the logon scripts and I can't get my XP machines on domain.

Most of my network machines work with Windows Me, 2 with win 2000 1 with win 98 and 3 on XP Pro

I presume I have a problema with the DNS but i'm out of solutions.

Thanks in advance for your help

Kwartin
