Hey guys, I'm just going to copy the email I sent to belkin technical support, since I don't have much faith in them. If you could respond via email (rtadoyle AT gmail.com), that would be the most preferred.
Thank you,
Ryan Doyle.
"Hi-
I am setting up a home network, I have:
router- f5d9230-4
and
wireless g usb network adapter f5d 7050We have two computers. The on ehooked directly to the router via an
ethernet cable is working fine. However, when I install the network
adapter in the other computer, I am unable to get online. I am
getting a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address when I run ipconfig on the second computer.
When I run it on the first computer, I am getting an IP address of
192.xxx.xxx.xxx.I have tried calling the tech support line, but am stuck in the
endless cycles of menu options, and can't find this router mentioned.Thank you,
Ryan Doyle."

Have you "walked" thru the manual and set up your wireless connection on the router and the computer??
Rule #1: Good Computers don't go down.
Rule #2: There is no such thing as a good computer.

First you'll need to enable the wireless LAN in the router's setup options: follow the instructions that came with the router. You should change the default SSID name of the router to something else and enable WPA encryption to discourage snooping on your network. Make an note of the passcode you use for encyrption.
(If you only have WEP encryption don't use a passcode to generate the hexdecimal key: manually assign this. Google "WEP Key Generator" for any number of sites that will randomly generate a key for you.)
Make sure your XP firewall is disabled. You may need to go into Hardware Configuration, look for "Network Adapters", and see if you have an Ethernet Adapter running as well as your Wireless adapter. Disable the Ethernet Adapter: Sometimes it screws up the wireless connection.
Run the wireless network setup wizard on the client PC and input your WEP key exactly as it appears on your router. When the Wireless setup detects your network set the client to "Automatically Connect when in Range".
