Can't get online

I left my computer up and when I came back I had hundreds of pop ups. After I restarted it kept giving messages that I had a virus and directed me to a web site trying to sell me something. I downloaded AVG 8.5 virus protection and installed it and now I can't get to the internet. Nothing. I get messages about firewall and someone having my IP but I am on DHCP. I uninstalled the AVG and have tried to restore but still have the problem.

Pain in da butt fix:
Install an anti-virus in safe mode after downloading it from a friends computer with access (use a flash drive to xfer it) and run a full scan while in safe mode.
System restore will not help you in this situation.
