can't get laptop to connect to wireless!

I've tried everything my little mind can think of, and I need help! :( The problem: There are 2 computers. a desktop downstairs and a laptop upstaries [both dell, the d/t is newer adn the laptop older]. I have a d-link wbr 2310 for a router. I could use the laptop to connect to the internet fine until a few days ago, it would show it connecting and be stuck on 'acquiring network address'. I installed network magic, unplugged the routers and computers for 30 mins, made sure the ip address matchedm undid firewalls + virus protection but it's still stuck! any help would be gladly accepted. Thnk you!
