I'm afraid that a splitter doesn't work that way; it is an unsuitable tool for the job. Depending upon how you are connected to the Internet, you need a router or a switch.

Give us full details of your internet setup please.

I assume you just want to be able to use the internet for something different at the same as your grandson is using it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

In a typical home you would have a modem (DSL, Cable, FIOS) to bring in the internet, then you would connect a router which would include a firewall for your protection as well as connections for a few devices and possibly a wireless (as in a wireless router) connection to your devices. For those who use more than a few wired devices, a switch can be added to expand the number of ports for more devices. Devices meaning Computers and other electronics that need an internet connection. Most of us probably use a mixture of wired and wireless devices.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
