Are you sure you are getting significant signal from your router. Walls, tiles, carpet, refrigerators, printers, all play a role in how much your extender will receive. Which router and extenders are you using in conjunction with each other?

I don't need to be right, but I am never wrong.

Your range extender has to be near enough to the original router to receive a strong enough signal in order to boost it for further out.
Your range extender can also be set up as a Wireless Access Point. This means that you connect it to your router via a Cat5 or higher wire and change the set up accordingly. The instructions for this are probably not in the quick set up guide that is included (if it is anything like the D-Link one I have), you need to go to their we site and download the full manual to see this option. You can get a Cat5 cable in 25ft, 50ft or even 100ft lengths so there is no real wiring, just plug it in and rout the wire out of the way to a place much closer to where it is needed. Another key is that you need to set it to the same Wifi name and log in key to work seamlessly.
I had many years ago wired the house as a network back when wireless was really slow. With all desktops, this was perfect. Now with laptops and cell phones, I added a Wifi router a couple of years ago but there was always areas in the house where reception was not perfect. Even after upgrading to a newer AC router, I was not satisfied. Then I got the Range Extender and set it up as a Wireless Access Point connected to the network and placed it a distance away and I have no more issues.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thank you so much, I will download manual and read it instead of the quick setup. Thank you, we were needing the signal to be strong in the garage so our car can get its software update and needed a very strong signal.
