Can't forward port

Vmware Workstation 6.0

Specs: Windows 7, 2/2
I'm trying to open port 8080 but I can't get it to be shown as open. In my linksys router I've correctly set up port 8080 to be forwarded to which is my local ip address but when I go to 8080 is not shown as open. I've tried turning off my firewall. I also have mcafee. Could that do it?

Yep it can. You have to check the settings for port 8080.
Long time ago that I used McAfee but in the last version I used, there were a list of ports that are blocked by default and must be enabled manually.

Also check in a command prompt, whether your machine is listening to port 8080.
netstat -abn

There is a difference between port opening and port forwarding, they are two completely different things.

Port forwarding doesn't open the port to the outside world. It just instructs the router to forward any packets it receives on that port to be directed to a particular computer. If there is a software Firewall like Mcafee then it wont go anywhere.

Port opening is done via a firewall. Most routers these days have a built in firewall which will need to be configured to allow packets through on the selected port.

Some router will allow you to receive packets on one port via an open port and forward it onto the computer via another port. Port address translation similar to Network Address Translation.
