I have two pc's network side by side. Mine has XP Pro and my wife's Win2K Pro. The network is working fine and internet/file sharing is ok.
The printer (Epson c20UX) is connected to the Win2K machine via USB port and working fine. I go to add printer on my XP machine to access the printer and when it searches for the printer it finds the workgroup but not the printer.
Do I have to install an XP driver on the Win2K machine for me to use the printer?
BTW, the sharing is activated (checked) in the properties box on the Win2K pc.
I think someone will get the drift of the problem.
Any help appreciated.

Ok, so you've enabled File and Printer Sharing on the Win2K machine but did you actually share the printer? If the printer is not listed under the add printer wizard then you most likely forgot to share the printer. When you install the network printer, XP will automatically setup the printer driver for it (assuming it has it).

I actually mentioned that I had "shared" the printer in the printer properties on the Win2K machine.
I have run the add printer wizard again and checked that I want to use a printer on a network and when it browses for the printer
it comes in the shared printers box:
Microsoft Windows Network/WORKGROUP/HOME
but the printer, which is shared, doesn't show.
As I asked, is it a driver issue on either machine?

Just to clear up the sharing question - on the Win2K machine the printer sharing has to be enabled in two places - network properties and printer properties. Got both?

It could well be a driver issue, but that wouldn't stop you seeing the printer share. That's only affect the working of the printer on the XP machine.
You have already done this I think, but just to be sure.
Try this on your Windows XP machine...START > Settings > Printers > Add Printer >
. Select Network Printer and click 'Next'
. Select 'Connect to this Printer...' and click next without typing any printer name. You should now see the Workgroup details, and be able to navigate through.
By accessing the workgroup of the Windows 2000 machine you should see the printer share there. If you can't try the following.Add the 'File and Print Sharing' Service to your network settings on the Windows XP machine and try again.
