I just bought a new Compaq Presario 2500 notebook that has a built in wireless card (hp wlan 54g w450). I can't get it to connect to my Netgear wireless router even though when I click on "view available network connections", it shows that Netgear is available. I'll then click on "connect" but nothing happens, then when I mouseover the network icon in the taskbar, it says "network connection unavailable".
This is weird because my new laptop works fine on our school's wireless connection, and also at my friend's house who has a Netgear wireless router. I updated the driver and still, nothing. Let me know, thanks.

Are you using a WEP key at home? I had to manually input the web key in my sister in laws XP laptop for it to connect. The WEP key phrase did not work.

I have the exact same problem with a Hp laptop with 802.11B and a netgear MR814v2 router. The only way it connects is to unplug and re-plug the power cord on the router. I am trying to find a solution thru netgear support if I do I'll let you know and please let me know if you find the solution.
