I can't connect a workstation to the network in my office building. It runs off a DHCP but won't let me connect to the internet or ping anyone. It can retreive some information from the network as follows
DHCP Server: 10.7.1.1
Default Gateway: 10.7.1.1
DNS Server: 203.111.0.10
203.111.0.13
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
IP Address: 10.7.1.102 (i think)
Also has lease periods as well.
The host name is the name of the workstation(is that right as other workstations have different host names)

Is this a workstation problem or a problem with the server?

Even when I unplug the network cable and "ipconfig" the details stay the same (not reset to zero)

Have tried 2 different network cards (1 onboard and a realtek NIC) both say they are talking to the network (blinking light) but when tying to look at the internet is get a DNS server error and the internet explorer error screen

Help greatly appreciated.

From the read out, everything looks good. The addressing reads normal - you have a valid IP address in a valid network being given by the DHCP server. (And oh, by the way, when you unplug, it doesn't reset to zero, it keeps the address, until you try to restart the computer again, so that's normal too). A more likely candidate is it seems you're in a shared enviroment, and probably sharing the internet connection, which means there could be a firewall some where, most likely in the default gateway (router)/DHCP server. That could be a likely candidate blocking your access. Do you know if there is a firewall?

You said you can't ping anyone - can you ping 10.7.1.1 ?

D,
I don't think there is a firewall as we have had to use personal firewalls on each workstation. Would it be wise to get the telco company to look at the connection?

Fred,
I can't ping 10.7.1.1

Since you can't ping the gateway on your own subnet it sounds like you have either an internal network problem or as D says a problem with your DHCP/gateway machine. The gateway is the machine you have to go through to get to the Internet. Can you get on the server or talk to the admin to see if the server is having problems?
