Can't connect to LAN servers on games :/

October 11, 2010 at 10:38:03
Specs: Windows 7, 4GB
Hello I've got a problem connecting to lan servers on games as Wc3 and Killing Floor. I've got a HP laptop with windows 7, I'm on the same network as my friends and I've turned the firewall off, antivirus off and run the game as administrator. But nothing seems to help!

Please help me with this problem!

post the results of an ipconfig /all for review

lan games run on tcp/ip like the internet does
ping [ip address] is the command to test connectivity
ipconfig /all at a cmd prompt tells you what your ip address is. You would get a lan friends ip address and then ping it from your pc as a test.

surely the person setting up the lan party knows all of this, right?

Thanks for the help i'll try to fix it ^^

I've found my ip, but this sounds a bit tricky :/
And the person hosting the server dosen't know this.

tricky? What part? How to ping a ip address?

Can you post the results of an ipconfig /all from your pc?

Usually to setup a game server you need to know a bit about networking

If you don't understand what I may be asking put it into google for clarification.

its a private ip address which we all use so no security issues? Your host isn't being very helpful. You can't even check to see if your box is in the same subnet which is what we are first checking here.

Go to one of the other lan party boxes
Go to run and type cmd then hit enter
In the blackbox type ipconfig
note the ip address, subnet mask and gateway

for the last number on the ip address use 200 which should put you out of any ipconflict range. So if they have you put in

Do you know how to get to your tcp/ip properties in lan connections?
