Hi,
I've searched the forums and can't find anything similar or that I haven't already tried.
The only thing I did between when it would connect and then stopped connecting was uninstall norton 360 trial.
spent 2 hours on phone with ISP (att/yahoo dsl) after trying everything they said it was because there was still something left from the norton uninstall.
What I've done;
Manually uninstalled anything related to norton.
Cleaned registry
run Diagnose and repair-"did not find any problems"
flushed DNS
we tried changing from auto to manual ip and it says the address 192.168.1.254 is not valid (in the box) so won't even let me go to second box.
When I try to go to 192.168.1.254
IE- I get internet explorer cannot display
firefox- though site appears valid can't establish connection.Have tried setting up new network.
When I go to network and sharing
it shows "mycomputer--------network--X---internet".
Tried unchecking tp6 (or whatever it is) leaving only 4 up.
turned off firewall.
I am currently connected via my laptop. I don't have them networked, I just plug directly in to which ever computer I am using.Computer is only 2 weeks old.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As you already know, your network card is not getting an IP address from the DHCP server. Do you have a modem and a router? What device(s) are between your PC and the internet?

I have nothing between my computer and dsl modem. I just plug the Ether cable directly in to which ever computer I am using (laptop vs desktop)

try this first:
plug in laptop which works ok, do ipconfig /all and see what ip you are getting...
unplug laptop, plug in desktop do ipconfig /all see what ip you are getting...
if different, check that settings for nic in desktop are same as laptop ie...dhcp enabled/etc..
if ok then try running winsockfix (google it)
