Comment: I have recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro in my computer. Of course I have done this many times before. But this time I got un unexpected problem: I do not get any Internet access. I have direct cable connection to my Internet Provider and never before needed to follow any steps after Windows installation, all installs automatically. Also my network adapter (onboard lan) is running properly. I have reinstalled Windows 3 times, same problem!. Can anyone help?. Thank you!

Reply: (edit)Have you checked the modem. Sometimes you have to recycle the power on them. Turn you modem off, wait 30 seconds then turn it back on see if that helps. Also, check the Network Card Settings. Check the TCP/IP Properties (IP Address)Make sure you have "Obtain IP Address Automatically" selected. If not try to ping yourself From Command Prompt "ping 127.0.0.1" to see if your NIC is working. Who knows, knows and who doesn't know, dosen't know jack! El que sabe, sabe y el que no sabe, no sabe nada!

Reply: (edit)First check that your cables are all connected correctly. Go to the XP Security Center and disable the Windows Firewall; see if you can connect now. Check your Hardware Configuration to see if your drivers are installed and working properly (and make sure these are the right drivers for your setup). Next go to the Command prompt and type in the command ping 127.0.0.1 to see if your NIC is working and TCP/IP is installed. Do an IPCONFIG/release and IPCONFIG/renew to see if you can get an IP address assignment from your provider. Check your network properties to see that Client for Microsoft Networks is installed, TCP/IP is installed, and TCP/iP is set for "Use DHCP server for WINS resolution" and "Assign IP Address Automatically".
