Subject: Can't connect to Internet with NAT
Comment:

I've been using ICS flawlessly, but I wanted to setup RRAS's NAT service. I setup the DNS and then ran the RRAS wizard. I chose the Internet Connection Server option. After that I setup NAT's DHCP pool to be 192.168.0.x. I then chose the naming resolution to be "Clients Using DNS". I booted up a client and it was able to obtain an IP from the DHCP pool. I try to ping a URL from the command prompt and the url gets resolved, but there are no reply packets. When I try a URL in IE, the status bar says "Opening URL" and the progress bar is running, but the page times out. So it seems like DNS is working fine. Am I suppose to setup any input or output filters for any of the interfaces? Am I suppose to add a static route at all? Or is NAT suppose to work right off the bat after choosing that option in the wizard? Any help is appreciated. If anyone has a link to a website that has a step-by-step on how to setup NAT on a 2000 Server, please post it.

Cheers,
LDawg

Hi, I am having the same problem too, even after following a few step-by-step guides on how to setuy NAT. ICS works fine, but can get internet sharing ot work with NAT.

to see the step-by-step guides use, do a search for 'setup configure windows 2000 NAT' on google.

if i get it working i will let you know.

I'm in the EXACT same situation.. WAnt to switch from ICS to NAT, but my client machines won't connect to the internet that way.

They get an IP via DHCP, and they are able to resolve hostnames... But that's all they can do!
