my computer will connect wired to internet and can find the wireless connection but wont connect. my wireless icon flashes intermitently and my mobile will work via wifi. do i need a new router this one is a G wireless Modem router Belkin had it for about 4 years?

You probably need a wpa passphrase or wep key to connect wirelessly. If the wireless connection is secured it usually shows the wireless signal with a little key emblem or says wpa or wep, wpa2. All of which require you to know the password. You can reset the router if you do not remember it.
Try to update wireless adapter driver and see if it helps. If you need more ideas, have a look on these wireless network troubleshooting tips. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your ideas, after trying everything and still no joy, I went and bought a new one.
ok so you bought a new router which will be unsecured so you should be able to connect right away to the wireless portion. You should read the manual and put in a passphrase for wireless protection or anyone else who can see your signal will have access.
